Steelers release struggling Jacoby Jones, promote S Ross Ventrone

The Jacoby Jones experiment produced minimal returns for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh released Jones on Friday, promoting safety Ross Ventrone as a corresponding move.

Unreliable hands plagued Jones, who had three fumbles in 15 returns, one for a turnover, resulting in his Week 13 benching against the Colts. Jones averaged 24.4 yards per kickoff return and 3.2 yards per punt return.

Jones signed with Pittsburgh in early November after being released by Kansas City, but he played in only four games with the Steelers.

In other Steelers news, wide receiver Martavis Bryant is questionable for Sunday's matchup with Cleveland because of an illness. Bryant is second on the team in touchdown receptions with six.
