Reggie Bush hints at lawsuit against St. Louis over knee injury

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers running back Reggie Bush all but confirmed reports Wednesday that he plans on suing the city of St. Louis after his freak knee injury ended his season on Nov. 1.

"We're working on some things," Bush said in the Niners' locker room, wearing a brace on his left knee. "We'll see. Nothing official.

"Right now, the most important thing for me is just getting healthy. That's my biggest focus, and just being able to spend more time with the family. That's kind of what happens when you get injured -- you spend more time with the family."

Bush dealt with incessant injury in his first season in Santa Clara, straining a left calf in the season opener and then re-tweaking it four weeks later.

But it was in St. Louis where Bush's season came to an end. Returning a punt down the right sideline, Bush was pushed out of bounds and his momentum carried him to the Edward Jones Dome's exposed concrete circling the artificial turf field.

Bush slipped on the concrete and went down in a heap against the wall, grabbing at his left knee immediately.

"I knew it was something because I felt it," Bush said. "I felt something pop.

"Just to get injured, period, is frustrating. But to get injured when it's not in-between the lines, that's very irritating."

Bush also said he suffered torn meniscus in the knee, rather than a torn MCL or ACL, as previously feared, and expects a four to six month-long rehab.

"Initially when it happened, I thought it was a lot worse," Bush said. "But anytime you're injured and you have to have surgery, it's not a good thing. But it could have been a lot worse."

Bush laughed when told the concrete was covered this past weekend.

"There should be something," he said. "You can't just have [concrete exposed]. It was a little weird. Honestly, I didn't even notice it until I got on it and fell. I didn't know there was concrete over there. I wasn't thinking of that. But it's a little bizarre. A little weird."

In five games, Bush had eight carries for 28 yards and caught four passes for 19 yards. He also returned two punts for 9 yards.

And on a one-year contract, Bush, who will be 31 in March, said he was open to returning to the Niners next season.

"Obviously, that's the business side of football and we'll see what happens," he said. "I'd like to come back, but we'll see if the organization feels the same way."
