Texans QB Brian Hoyer enters concussion protocol

NFL, Houston Texans

CINCINNATI -- Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer suffered a concussion in Houston's 10-6 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hoyer has entered the league's concussion protocol. He will have to pass a series of tests and be cleared by a neurologist in order to return to the field.

Hoyer left the game with less than three minutes remaining in the third quarter and was replaced by backup quarterback T.J. Yates.

Hoyer had completed 12 of 22 passes for 123 yards and one interception when he left the game. He was sacked twice.

The Texans signed Yates three weeks ago, after releasing Ryan Mallett. Yates completed five of 11 passes for 69 yards and threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins. That touchdown gave the Texans a lead with 14:20 left in the game. Neither team scored again.

Hoyer has completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 13 touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He has been sacked 15 times and has a passer rating of 92.9. He has started five games for the Texans.
