Mike Tomlin isn't tripping on Jacoby Jones' chances to help the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On Thursday, Pittsburgh claimed the receiver and kick returner off waivers and released running back and kick returner/back Dri Archer, a third-round pick in 2014, as a corresponding move.
Jones was returning a kick for Baltimore in November 2013 when Tomlin came dangerously close to tripping Jones as he streaked down the sideline. The incident, which was possibly inadvertent but open to interpretation, didn't play well in Baltimore.
Tomlin quipped after the Ravens game, "Tell Jacoby he's safe."
The Steelers coach was fined $100,000 by the NFL for his actions.
Archer is a speedster but never carved out a prominent role in Pittsburgh.
Jones, a nine-year veteran with 10,000-plus all-purpose yards, was recently released by the San Diego Chargers earlier this week.
