Alex Mack: 'I'm not leaving my teammates, coaches and Browns fans'

NFL, Cleveland Browns

Alex Mack will not waive his no-trade clause and will finish the season with the Cleveland Browns.

Through his representatives, Mack released a statement Monday night to several reporters, including ESPN's Adam Schefter, in which he said the no-trade clause was "included for a good reason."

"I'm not leaving my teammates, coaches and Browns fans while there is work this season to be finished," he said on the eve of the NFL trade deadline.

It's debatable whether the Browns ever considered trading Mack. Browns coach Mike Pettine has treated trade rumors regarding his players with a roll of the eyes. He referred to the "fictitious trading block" on Sunday.

On
Monday, Pettine added: "I just think it's a function of when you get close to the trade deadline and things aren't going well, people outside the building want to put two and two together and float stuff out there."

Mack signed his contract when he was given the transition tag by the Browns in 2013. Jacksonville signed Mack to a five-year offer sheet worth $42 million, which the Browns quickly matched.

Mack has three years remaining on the deal, but he also has the right to opt out and become a free agent after the season. His deal calls for him to make $8 million in salary and bonuses each of the next three seasons.

Mack went to the Pro Bowl in 2013 but missed 11 games with a fractured ankle in 2014. This season, he is working his way back to form.

ProFootballFocus.com rates Mack the NFL's third-best center since the third week of the season.
