Source: Saints WR Marques Colston to get MRI on injured shoulder

NFL, New Orleans Saints

METAIRIE, La. -- Marques Colston suffered a shoulder injury during the New Orleans Saints' 39-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and was scheduled to undergo a MRI on Monday, according to a source. It's unclear how much time he is expected to miss.

The Saints (1-4) have a quick turnaround this week with a home date against the Atlanta Falcons (5-0) on Thursday night.

Colston suffered the injury during the second half Sunday and was spotted with his arm in a sling after the game by NOLA.com.

The NFL Network reported that Colston suffered at least a separated shoulder with possible structural damage.

The 10th-year veteran has been off to a slow start this season with 18 catches for 200 yards and zero touchdowns. Colston had an early drop in Sunday's loss before finishing with three catches for 36 yards.

If Colston misses time, his natural replacement would be fellow big man Brandon Coleman, a second-year receiver with similar physical dimensions at 6-foot-6, 225 pounds. But Coleman has also disappeared in recent weeks after a promising start.

Coleman didn't catch a pass Sunday, and quarterback Drew Brees threw an interception the only time he targeted him. He has just two catches for 39 yards since Week 2.

The Saints will also likely need to add a fourth receiver to the active roster after releasing backup Joseph Morgan last week.
