Odell Beckham Jr., Rueben Randle have MRIs; Giants hope WRs will practice

The New York Giants have an extra day this week to prepare for next Monday night's key division game in Philadelphia, and they may need it.

Wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle, who both suffered hamstring injuries late in Sunday's victory over San Francisco, had MRIs on Monday, and their status for next week's game against the Eagles is in question.

Speaking on a conference call Monday, Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he hoped Beckham and Randle could practice "at least on a limited basis" when the team returns to the practice field Thursday and Friday.

But Coughlin also said that a lot would depend on the way their treatment goes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

"We're going to have to see," Coughlin said. "They're going to have a couple of days where they can be treated, so we'll take full advantage of that.

"I did tell our team that the important thing on a weekly basis is to play these really tough physical football games and come back and do it again the next week. We need more guys on our practice field."

Beckham came out of the game late in the third quarter after scoring and celebrating a touchdown catch that put the Giants up 20-13. He sat out nearly all of the fourth quarter, though he did manage to talk his way back onto the field for the final four plays.

It's unclear whether Beckham was able to run full-speed on those plays, but he did draw a key pass interference penalty on the play right before Larry Donnell's game-winning touchdown catch.

After the game, Beckham said he didn't think his hamstring injury was too serious and that it wouldn't be long before it was healed. But he was non-specific about a timeline.

Beckham missed all of training camp and the first four games of 2014 with a hamstring injury, and this year he missed the team's June minicamp with a hamstring injury he suffered in OTAs.

Randle said after the game that he was about to go back in if they hadn't scored on the Donnell play, but that's obviously difficult to confirm.

With wide receiver Victor Cruz still sidelined indefinitely due to a calf injury, Coughlin left open the possibility that the Giants could add a wide receiver from the practice squad or from outside the organization in advance of Monday. Julian Talley and Tavarres King are the two wide receivers currently on the practice squad.
