Buccaneers cut kicker Kyle Brindza

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut Kyle Brindza on Monday after he missed two field goal attempts and an extra point attempt during Sunday's loss to Carolina.

Brindza, a rookie out of Notre Dame, made 6 of 12 field goal attempts, including just 2 of his last 7, and was 6-of-8 on extra points this season.

"Kyle has a strong leg," Bucs coach Lovie Smith said. "But in our league, points are valuable. You can't miss five out of seven field goals, two extra points. We just can't afford to be in that position anymore. So I feel like we saw something we didn't like two weeks ago, and yesterday's game told us the direction we need to go."

The Bucs gained Brindza in a trade that sent tight end Tim Wright to the Detroit Lions on Aug. 31.
