Packers elevate WR Jared Abbrederis from practice squad

NFL, Green Bay Packers

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- In a sign that receiver Davante Adams won't be available for Sunday's game at San Francisco, the Green Bay Packers have promoted Jared Abbrederis from the practice squad, the team announced Saturday.

Earlier on Saturday, the Packers downgraded Adams to doubtful because of his recurring left ankle injury.

To make room for Abbrederis, defensive lineman Bruce Gaston was released.

Abbrederis was a fifth-round pick out of Wisconsin in 2014 but missed his entire rookie season because of a knee injury. He played in only one preseason game this year because of a concussion he suffered on the first day of practice. He was released at the end of the preseason and re-signed to the practice squad. This is his first time on the active roster.

Gaston became expendable when defensive tackle Letroy Guion's three-game suspension expired this week.

The Packers took their entire practice squad with them on this trip in order to have their full team available for Saturday's practice at San Jose State University.
