Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) participates in practice

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, who did not play last week because of a hamstring strain, was limited in practice Wednesday, coach John Fox said.

"I thought he had a good practice," Fox said. "He was limited. Obviously we're trying to treat him and get him better as we move forward. Thought we had a good day today."

The Bears deactivated Cutler for last Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks after the 32-year-old quarterback was injured during the previous week's loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

League sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Cutler is expected to miss a minimum of two games.

The Bears will face the Oakland Raiders at home this Sunday, and will visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 11.

The veteran quarterback needs to prove he can avoid the rush and move outside the pocket before the Bears clear him to return. Last Sunday, Cutler tested out his injured hamstring three hours before kickoff by lightly running sideline to sideline a handful of times at CenturyLink Field. He did not appear to be moving at full speed during that abbreviated workout.

Without Cutler, the Bears' offense punted 10 times in a 26-0 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Starting quarterback Jimmy Clausen completed only 9 of 17 pass attempts for 63 yards. Former sixth-round pick David Fales served as the No. 2 quarterback.

In other injury news, wide receiver Alshon Jeffery also was limited during practice. He worked on a side field with a member of the training staff during the open session. Jeffery missed two straight weeks because of a hamstring problem but is likely to return to face the Raiders on Sunday.
