GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Letroy Guion has lost his appeal and will serve the full three-game suspension he was given for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the league announced Thursday.
The Green Bay Packers defensive tackle will be eligible to return to the team Sept. 29, one day after its Week 3 Monday Night Football game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Guion first received notification of the suspension in July, and his appeal was heard Monday.
Guion's agent, Seth Katz, led the appeal but could not be reached for comment. The Packers said in a statement announcing the suspension that they had no further comment.
Although the suspension was for Guion's offseason arrest, it falls under the substance abuse policy because it was drug-related. Players can be entered into the substance abuse program for a either a positive test or a behavioral violation involving a substance.
Guion was arrested for felony possession of marijuana and a firearm in February. He paid a $5,000 fine in March in a plea deal to avoid prosecution.
Neither Guion nor defensive end Datone Jones, who is suspended for the regular-season opener, will count against the 53-man roster when final cuts are due on Sept. 5.
