Marshawn Lynch's appeal hearing canceled; future compliance expected

NFL, Seattle Seahawks

A hearing for Marshawn Lynch intended to address a $75,000 fine from last season has been canceled, and the NFL expects Lynch to comply with their media access policy going forward, a league source has confirmed.

Under terms of his settlement, Lynch won't have to pay the fine for not talking to the media as long as he agrees to talk to the media going forward. If he fails to comply, the fine will be reinstated, according to multiple reports.

NFL Network had earlier reported that the Seattle Seahawks running back's hearing had been canceled.

Pro Football Talk reported that the fine stemmed from two separate incidents: Lynch making an obscene gesture during the NFC Championship Game against the Packers and then not talking to the media afterward.

He had dropped the appeal for the obscene gesture but had been awaiting a hearing for the $50,000 fine for not talking to the media.

While the fine has been waived for now, it could be applied down the road if Lynch fails to cooperate with the league's media policy this season. Should that happen, Lynch could be forced to account for the previous fine and also face a new penalty.
