The popular "Madden NFL 16" video game was released Tuesday, with last season's Super Bowl teams carrying the highest ratings and only three players checking in with the coveted 99 overall rating.
The New England Patriots may have defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX, but the two teams are rated evenly in the video game at 91. The Green Bay Packers (90) and Denver Broncos (89) are right behind them.
Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski are the game's top players with overall ratings of 99. (Complete ratings are here.)
Gronkowski was also featured in an elaborate movie trailer for the game -- along with Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick -- that's been viewed on YouTube more than 7 million times.
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is featured on the cover of the game, but the second-year receiver is tied with Jones as the fourth-best receiver with an overall rating of 94. Topping the list of receivers are Brown (97), the Dallas Cowboys' Dez Bryant (96) and the Detroit Lions' Calvin Johnson (95). Beckham, he of the amazing one-handed catch, is the only receiver with a 99 rating in the "spectacular catch" category.
Although Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston was the first overall pick in this year's draft, the top "Madden" rookie is wide receiver Amari Cooper, who received an 82 rating and was taken fourth overall by the Oakland Raiders. Winston is the No. 2 rookie with an 81 rating. St. Louis Rams running back Todd Gurley, New York Jets defensive end Leonard Williams and Washington Redskins offensive tackle Brandon Scherff are rated at 80. Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, who was selected second in the draft, is a 78.
Rodgers, who had the second-best passer rating in the NFL last season, is the highest-rated "Madden" quarterback, followed by the Patriots' Tom Brady (97), the New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees (95), the Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger (95) and the Indianapolis Colts' Andrew Luck (94).
Marshawn Lynch didn't get the ball at the goal line in the Super Bowl, but the Seattle bruiser claimed the title of top "Madden" running back with a 96 rating. He is followed by the Minnesota Vikings' Adrian Peterson (95), the Kansas City Chiefs' Jamaal Charles (94), the Philadelphia Eagles' DeMarco Murray (94) and the Steelers' Le'Veon Bell (94).
Seattle's "Legion of Boom" secondary is ranked highly in the game, with Richard Sherman tied with New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis as the top corners with a 97 overall rating. Sherman's running mates Earl Thomas (95) and Kam Chancellor (94) are ranked second and third among safeties, trailing only the San Diego Chargers' Eric Weddle (96) at the position.
Joining the Patriots, Seahawks, Packers and Broncos as the top-rated teams in their divisions are the Steelers (84), Colts (87), Cowboys (86) and Carolina Panthers (80). The Titans (72) are the lowest-rated team in the game, followed by the Jacksonville Jaguars at 73.
