Eli Manning not focused on new contract

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Russell Wilson's reported contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks is the latest in a 2015 offseason of big quarterback deals. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is still waiting for his.

But true to form, on the first day of Giants training camp, Manning insisted he is not thinking about it at all.

"You'd have to ask the Giants or my agent," Manning said when asked where things stood. "That's not my concern. I don't get too involved in that stuff."

Manning is entering the final year of his contract and is scheduled to earn $17.5 million with a salary-cap cost of $19.75 million. The Giants and Manning's agents have spoken at various times this offseason, including within the past few weeks, but have yet to reach agreement on a deal. People on both sides have made it clear that they don't feel any urgency to reach a deal before the 2016 offseason, that they expect to get it done at some point and that Manning will finish his career as a Giant.

"I hope so," Manning said. "Right now, my concern is getting on this practice field for our first practice. I'm excited about that, and I'll just let the business side just work itself out."

Wilson's deal, along with the four-year extension Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger signed earlier this offseason, seem to establish an approximate value for established franchise quarterbacks.

While Giants owner John Mara made a tongue-in-cheek reference Thursday about how "the agent asks for the moon, we make a reasonable offer," it's likely both sides understand the basic parameters of the deal. It's a matter of details, and to this point there has been no deadline set for finalizing those.

Asked why he hasn't imposed a pre-camp deadline for finalizing his deal, as Wilson did, Manning shrugged and said, "I hadn't thought of it."

Manning said he didn't think Wilson's deal would provide a framework for the one he eventually gets from the Giants.

"No, I'm not into the comparison about how much money you're making," Manning said. "That's not my concern."
