Hyundai's deal with NFL will net league $50M per year, source says

The NFL's rough time off the field certainly isn't affecting the league's coffers in the bank.

The NFL announced Monday that Hyundai will replace General Motors as an official sponsor. A source with knowledge of the deal says it doubles the amount GM paid to $50 million a year.

That's even more impressive considering that, unlike the GM deal, which was exclusive, the NFL can still sell the truck category and the rights to give away that vehicle to the Super Bowl MVP.

The Hyundai deal is for the next four seasons.

"We are huge football fans at Hyundai and feel there is no better venue to reach consumers, increase consideration and tell the Hyundai brand story," said Dave Zuchowski, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America, in a statement.

Despite questions surrounding how NFL commissioner Roger Goodell handled the punishment of Ray Rice and subsequent domestic violence issues with its players, the league continues to flourish financially. The league topped $12 billion in revenue for the first time this past season and did not lose a single sponsor.

Hyundai's sister company Kia is the official car of the NBA. Chevrolet is the official car of Major League Baseball, while Honda has the NHL.
