DeVante Parker expected to be ready for Week 1 after foot surgery

Miami Dolphins first-round pick DeVante Parker had successful foot surgery Friday, and the plan is for the wide receiver to be ready by Week 1 of the regular season.

Parker had foot issues in college and missed seven games last year at Louisville. Miami still made Parker the No. 14 overall pick in the draft, and Parker was impressive in rookie camp and organized team activities.

Parker's surgery was to replace the screw in his foot, according to NFL.com.

The surgery is viewed as a long-term fix. But in the short term, Parker likely will begin the regular season as a backup. He was competing with veteran wide receivers Greg Jennings and Kenny Stills for a starting job. Parker may miss a portion or all of training camp.

It has been a tough week for injuries with the Dolphins. Kicker Caleb Sturgis, last year's leading scorer, recently injured his quad in a team-sponsored kickball game and is expected to miss at least four weeks.
