Dez Bryant takes part in individual drills despite unsigned tender

NFL, Dallas Cowboys

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has not signed his franchise-tag tender but the Pro Bowler did take part in a limited portion of Thursday's organized team activity at Valley Ranch.

Bryant has made a handful of appearances at the Cowboys' offseason conditioning program while hoping for a long-term contract, but this was his first meaningful on-field work this spring with his teammates.

Bryant went through individual drills on Thursday as the Cowboys concluded their first week of OTAs. They have six remaining OTAs in the next two weeks and will have their mandatory minicamp June 16-18.

Unless Bryant signs the tender, he is not obligated to show up for the minicamp. The OTAs are voluntary. Once Bryant signs the tender, he would be guaranteed $12.823 million. A long-term deal needs to be worked out by July 15 or he would have to play the season on the tender offer.

On Wednesday, coach Jason Garrett said the team has been in communication with Bryant throughout the offseason, and Bryant appeared to be in great shape in the times the receiver has visited Valley Ranch. He led the NFL and set a team record with 16 touchdown receptions in 2014 to go along with 88 catches for 1,320 yards.

"Obviously when you have him, it makes things a little bit easier," quarterback Tony Romo said after Wednesday's OTA. "Tell him to come back."
