Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr won't require surgery on his injured ring finger, his agent said Wednesday. "It's a very minor situation," agent Tim Younger told the San Francisco Chronicle. "I think he's probably going to be throwing before the end of [the Raiders' offseason workouts]." Carr has experienced numbness in the finger, a source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen, a condition that can be nerve-related. The Raiders hope the second-year quarterback's finger will respond well to rehab and allow him to avoid a surgical option. The source did not provide information on a specific event that created the condition, but said the team is not overly alarmed. Christian Ponder is working with the first team in organized team activities, with Carr on the sideline. Carr started all 16 games in his rookie season and is being counted on to solidify the revolving door at quarterback that has plagued Oakland for the past decade. Carr was the 18th quarterback to start for Oakland since the beginning of 2003, but he became the first to go all 16 games since Rich Gannon did it in the 2002 season -- when the Raiders made the Super Bowl. Carr had good and bad moments during a three-win season for Oakland. He became the seventh rookie quarterback to throw for at least 3,000 yards and 20 touchdown passes in a season and looked comfortable in the pocket. He also struggled at times against the blitz and was unable to get the ball downfield consistently, in part because of the lack of a game-breaking receiver, which he might now have with the addition of Amari Cooper, the Raiders' No. 4 overall pick in the 2015 draft.
