Russell Wilson merchandise again tops among NFL players

NFL, Seattle Seahawks

No NFL player was more popular on NFL merchandise last year than Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, according to a list released Monday by NFL Players Inc.

For a second straight year, Wilson led all players in officially licensed sales, the NFL Players Association's marketing arm said. More specifically, Wilson had the most popular jersey and the most popular ugly sweater.

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning finished second in sales from March 1, 2014, through Feb. 28, 2015. Rounding out the top five were New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (who had the best-selling Fathead), San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Players who saw the biggest jumps in licensed sales were former Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray, who finished 23rd after not even making the top 50 last season.

Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant finished sixth overall, a jump of 24 spots from last year.

Three players who were among the top licensed players last year that fell off the list this year: former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice (28th), Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (36) and Indianapolis Colts running back Trent Richardson (37).

Other big falls included Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, who tumbled from fourth to 25th. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson both fell 14 spots in the rankings.

NFL Players Inc. licensees generated $1.4 billion in retail sales this year, the union said.
