Anthony Spencer signs with Saints

NFL, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys

The New Orleans Saints have signed former Dallas Cowboys defensive end/outside linebacker Anthony Spencer to a one-year deal.

The signing was announced by Saints general manager Mickey Loomis.

Spencer is 31 and has been limited by a knee injury the past two years. But he has produced in the same system the Saints have run in the past. New Orleans defensive coordinator Rob Ryan held the same position with the Cowboys in 2012 when Spencer had a career-high 11 sacks and made the Pro Bowl. He has a total of 33 sacks in his eight-year career.

Ryan uses both 4-3 and 3-4 fronts. Spencer has played both end positions in 4-3 fronts and outside linebacker in 3-4 fronts.
