Lions to DeAndre Levy: 'Don't fall'

DETROIT -- DeAndre Levy posted pictures of his wing walking in Washington earlier this month. And at the Lions town hall meeting Tuesday night, the team seemed to have no problem with Levy's dangerous activities.

"The official position," team president Tom Lewand said, "is don't fall."

Wing walking is a dangerous activity, for sure, and something the linebacker has relished doing in the offseason, whether it is sliding down a volcano, traveling to foreign countries or standing up on a biplane in the Pacific Northwest.

Players often have clauses in their contracts prohibiting them from participating in certain activities -- riding motorcycles is one example that sometimes pops up in contracts -- but from the way Lewand and Lions coach Jim Caldwell spoke, there doesn't seem to be that sort of provision in Levy's contract. An email sent to Levy's agent Monday about the linebacker's contract was not returned.

Caldwell said he first saw Levy's wing walking picture earlier Tuesday.

"I think he was strapped in pretty well," Caldwell said. "As a matter of fact, I just saw the photo for the first time. He's that kind of individual. He's afraid of nothing.

"He takes some pretty exotic trips in the offseason and as long as he's coming back healthy, we're going to pray for him. He's an integral part of our team."

Levy, who was second in the NFL in tackles last season with 151 and led the league with 117 solo tackles, enters the final season of his contract. With Ndamukong Suh now in Miami, Levy likely becomes the best player on a defense that was in the top 10 last season.
