Seattle, Wilson working on extension

Seahawks general manager John Schneider reiterated Monday that the team hopes to work out a contract extension for quarterback Russell Wilson during this offseason, but he didn't go into details of the negotiations.

"Russell is a guy that wants to win championships for a long time,'' Schneider said. "He has a good understanding of the business. That being said, we are basically in what we call Phase 2 of free agency. His people are aware that we want to help out our club as much as we can."

Schneider also mentioned middle linebacker Bobby Wagner and offensive tackle Russell Okung as team priorities for contract extensions.

"But we have to be very careful how we step with our [salary] cap moving forward,'' Schneider said. "We know those guys are such instrumental pieces."

There has been a great deal of speculation that Wilson could get the first all-guaranteed contract, but that now appears unlikely when the new deal is completed, an extension that likely will top $100 million overall.

Schneider said the Seahawks hope to work out Wilson's situation similar to what was done last offseason with cornerback Richard Sherman and free safety Earl Thomas.
