Randall Cobb: 'Best place for me'

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Randall Cobb must think the Green Bay Packers are going to be a Super Bowl-caliber team over the next four years.

Two days after agreeing to a four-year, $40 million deal, Cobb explained his decision to remain in Green Bay. He spoke during an interview with the team's website.

"At the end of the day, I want to win championships," Cobb told Packers.com. "I feel like being in this offense and this organization was the best place for me to have the opportunity for me to win those championships. That's my goal day-in and day-out, to get those rings. I'm going to do everything in my power to help this team get to that position."

Although the exact breakdown of the contract was not yet available, there were indications Cobb turned down more lucrative offers to re-sign with the Packers.

The Packers picked Cobb in the second round of the 2011 draft, a few months after their victory in Super Bowl XLV. They were within an overtime of getting back to the Super Bowl last season but blew a 12-point fourth-quarter lead in the NFC Championship Game against the Seattle Seahawks.

"It left a sour taste in my mouth," Cobb said. "I think that was another selling point for me. I know how close we were to a Super Bowl last year, and I want to get back there. I want to get to a Super Bowl and not come so close."

Cobb said the opportunity to continue his career with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the 2014 NFL MVP, also factored into his decision.

Twice in the past three years, Cobb has caught 80 or more passes. Last season, he set career highs with 91 catches, 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. He and Jordy Nelson became the first pair of teammates in NFL history to record 90-plus catches, 1,200-plus yards and at least 12 touchdowns in the same regular season.

Cobb said he and Nelson hope to repeat -- or even top -- that this season.

"That's the plan; that's what's next," he said. "It's going to be hard, though."
