Five teams primed to spend in FA

NFL

Free agency can serve a variety of purposes for NFL teams. As we saw from the New England Patriots last offseason, it was free-agent cornerback Darrelle Revis who served as something of a finishing touch on a Super Bowl-winning roster. The Denver Broncos, who finished with the AFC's second seed, used free agency to add a quartet of impact veterans, as cornerback Aqib Talib, safety T.J. Ward, outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders were all named Pro Bowlers following their 2014 campaigns. Other teams, including Seattle, were heavily focused on player extensions last offseason, locking up cornerstones cornerback Richard Sherman and safety Earl Thomas on lengthy new deals.

While there are a multitude of ways teams will use free agency, we know there will be a flurry of early activity when it begins March 10. (For the few of you reading this who may not be already, make sure to follow Adam Schefter on Twitter for one-stop shopping on free-agency news).

Below is a look at five teams that have the resources to spend big in free agency and some thoughts on positions at which they could concentrate their efforts. And while official word on the salary cap for 2015 is not yet available, we'll use a projected amount of $143 million for this exercise.

Jacksonville Jaguars

2015 cap commitments: $97,427,271
2015 cash commitments: $81,368.536
2014 rollover cap space: $21,768,205
Projected cap space: $67,123,210

The Jaguars were active in free agency last year as well, signing former Seahawks Chris Clemons and Red Bryant, as well as landing guard Zane Beadles from Denver and running back Toby Gerhart from Minnesota. The team has exuded a wisely patient approach under the new regime -- led by GM David Caldwell and head coach Gus Bradley -- which enters its third year in 2015.
