Can GB keep Cobb and Bulaga?

NFL

Our NFL Front Office Insiders are taking a look at the biggest offseason questions facing the league's most compelling teams. In this edition, they take over the Green Bay Packers, looking at whether they should re-sign free agents Randall Cobb and Bryan Bulaga, and their biggest need positions on defense.

Mark Dominik (general manager): We're in a challenging position with our top two priority free agents this season, WR Randall Cobb and OT Bryan Bulaga. They are both very good players, but they aren't elite players, and they don't play any of the highest-value positions. Neither one warrants the kind of money you'd have to pay them if you used the franchise tag on them.

The likeliest scenario is that we're going to have to overpay one a little bit with a long-term extension in order to keep him off the open market, and then let the other one see what he can get elsewhere with the hope that we can eventually bring him back at a reasonable contract. If we try to extend both guys prior to the start of free agency, we're going to have to overpay and it'll make it tough to bring back any of our other free agents, and you worry about setting a bad precedent for future negotiations as well.
