Court: Seizure of Guion's truck legal

INDIANAPOLIS -- A Florida court ruled on Friday that Starke, Florida, police had probable cause when they seized Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Letroy Guion's 2015 Dodge Ram truck and $190,028.81 in cash earlier this month.

Guion was pulled over for erratic driving on Feb. 3 and was found in possession of 357 grams of marijuana and an unloaded gun (which was registered in Minnesota). He was arrested for felony possession of marijuana and a firearm.

Guion's attorney has said his client explained that the money came from his Packers' paychecks.

In a four-page ruling, the Bradford County, Florida circuit court said "probable cause was established to authorize the continued seizure of the subject contraband."

A source with knowledge of the legal situation said the criminal matter is close to being resolved and will include the return of his property.

Guion is free on $100,000 bond and has returned to Green Bay, according to Packers coach Mike McCarthy.

"Obviously, players, all of us, the decisions you make off the field you're totally responsible for," McCarthy said this week at the NFL scouting combine. "He's accepted full responsibility. I've talked to him a number of times. He's back in Green Bay. I stand by what I said during the season [and] after the season: He was an impactful personality and played good football for us. I'm hopeful, if we get past this and the monitoring gives us the green light to go forward, I'd love to have Letroy back."

Guion was initially pulled over by police for "failure to maintain a single lane," according to the report. The 315-pound Guion was partially hanging out of the driver's side window, at which point the officer smelled marijuana, the report said.

According to the police report from the arrest, Guion was "extremely uncooperative and hostile" while the truck was initially searched. The officer reported that Guion "kept coming toward the vehicle several times saying, 'Hey man, my money is in there. Don't let him take my money.'"

Guion then was secured in handcuffs.

Guion told police he had a weapon that was registered to him, and they found a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.

A source with knowledge of the details told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan the handgun was unloaded in a box and that Guion has a permit to carry it in Minnesota.

Guion was in the process of moving back from Green Bay to his home in Starke, the source said.

The source said further that Guion, after cashing his Packers paychecks, was going to use the money to help his family in Starke, and he provided proof of the money's origin through recent bank statements.
