Tony Sparano new 49ers TE coach

Former Oakland Raiders interim head coach Tony Sparano won't be moving far for his next job, as he has been hired by the San Francisco 49ers to be the team's new tight ends coach, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Sparano took over for the Raiders midway through the 2014-15 season, after the team started 0-4 and fired coach Dennis Allen.

After leading the team to a 3-9 finish, Sparano was a candidate to become the team's permanent head coach, but the Raiders elected to hire Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio instead.

Sparano joins the staff of first-time head coach Jim Tomsula in San Francisco, who was promoted following Jim Harbaugh's departure from the Niners.

Sparano previously was the tight ends coach for Washington (2001), Jacksonville (2002) and Dallas (2003-04). He also has experience as the Cowboys' running game coordinator and O-line coach (2005-06) and assistant head coach/offensive line (2007) as well as the New York Jets' offensive coordinator (2012).

He has deep ties to Bill Parcells, who is linked closely to 49ers general manager Trent Baalke.
