RG III hopes cast finds new home

NFL, Washington Redskins

It wasn't an item that Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III ever wanted, but he hopes it's something others will want a lot more.

And there's something a little symbolic, both for his career and the Redskins' season, about the item; there aren't many things worth peddling from a 4-12 season.

Griffin is auctioning off the cast he wore after dislocating his left ankle in Week 2 this season.

The injury sidelined him for six games and left him recovering from a second major leg injury in his first three seasons in the NFL.

The auction will end Feb. 13, and the money will benefit his Family of 3 charitable foundation. A description on the foundation's website says the cast was signed by the entire team.

The injury was just part of a frustrating season for Griffin. When he returned, he lasted three games before being benched in favor of Colt McCoy. After McCoy suffered a neck injury, Griffin started the final two games, helping the Redskins upset Philadelphia in Week 16.

For the season, Griffin posted an 86.9 passer rating. He completed 68.7 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and six interceptions.
