Henry Melton has bone bruise

IRVING, Texas -- If Henry Melton is going to play in the playoffs, the Dallas Cowboys might have to first win two games.

Melton suffered a bone bruise on his right knee in Sunday's 44-17 win against the Washington Redskins that kept him out of the second half of the contest and could cost him "a few weeks," according to his agent, Jordan Woy.

The Cowboys play the Detroit Lions in the wild-card round of the playoffs on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.

Melton played in every game this season and finished second on the team with five sacks after playing in only three games last year for the Chicago Bears due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Melton missed a $250,000 incentive by not getting his sixth sack of the season. He had five sacks in the first nine games.

He signed a one-year deal with a three-year option as a free agent in the offseason.

The Cowboys are not likely to pick up the option on Melton's deal, which would guarantee him $9 million in 2015. It is possible he could re-sign with the team at a lower price, but he would become a free agent without the option.

Linebacker Anthony Hitchens suffered a high right-ankle sprain against the Redskins and his availability for the Lions' game is also in question.
