Mike Davis plans to enter draft

College Football, South Carolina Gamecocks

SHREVEPORT, La. -- South Carolina junior running back Mike Davis is leaving the Gamecocks for the NFL draft after the Duck Commander Independence Bowl.

Davis announced his intentions to give up his final season Thursday after the Gamecocks' practice for the Saturday game against Miami.

Davis ran for 1,183 yards last year. He has 927 yards so far this year and can join Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers as the only players in South Carolina history with multiple 1,000-yard seasons.

Davis said he wanted to finish his college career with a strong game against the Hurricanes. He said he enjoyed his time at South Carolina and will miss his teammates when he leaves school to train for the next spring's draft.
