Considering all of the work they did in the offseason -- changing offensive coordinators and systems, signing more free agents than any other team in the league -- it wasn't crazy for people to expect the New York Giants to improve on last season's 7-9 record.
They did not.
If it wasn't clear to everyone at the time, it surely became clear as the 2014 season went along that the Giants' roster issues run far deeper than one offseason -- no matter how active -- could fix. The offense was a work in progress throughout the first season under coordinator Ben McAdoo. The defense was shredded by injuries in the rebuilt secondary, and it took three-quarters of the season for the pass rush to show up.
The flip side is that the offense did show progress and the pass rush did show up. And at this point, having shown growth in what was clearly a rebuilding year all along, the Giants are likely to decide the right move is to stick with their program.
