Jags' Marks rips Pro Bowl balloting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Pro Bowl announcement will come Tuesday night and the only Jaguars player with a chance of hearing his name is defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks.

But if he makes the list it will have to be because he got a lot of support from the coaches and players, who make up two-thirds of the voting process. He finished 13th among defensive tackles in fan voting despite being second among all defensive tackles with 8.5 sacks.

Marks was hurt in the fan voting by the fact he plays for a small-market team that has won just three games and appeared on national television only once. That's just not enough for him to move past players such as Buffalo's Marcell Dareus, Detroit's Ndamukong Suh, New England's Vince Wilfork, and the New York Jets' Sheldon Richardson.

"If it happens that way, then I say that the whole Pro Bowl voting and balloting is all BS," Marks said. "How do you look at it? Do you look at it as a guy that plays good on a good team or a guy that plays good on what you consider a team that doesn't have the record? I thought it was supposed to be the guy who plays the best at that position that year.

"That's what I thought it was. If it comes out that way, it wouldn't bother me. It wouldn't stop the way I play. It wouldn't hurt my feelings at all."

Marks is certainly deserving of making the Pro Bowl. He leads the Jaguars with his 8.5 sacks -- second in the league among defensive tackles to Dareus' 10 -- to go along with 42 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and one pass breakup. More than half of his 16.5 career sacks have come this season.

His last sack, which came on the final play of the Jaguars' 21-13 victory over Tennessee last Thursday night, earned him a $600,000 bonus for surpassing 8.0 sacks. That extra notoriety may help him in the voting with players and coaches.

"As a personal goal you hope that you make it," Marks said. "You hope that you are first-team and you don't have to be an alternate. If it happens, that'll be great. That'll be awesome. Great stamp on the career, not only for me but for the group.

"Like I said, I didn't do any of this by myself and I can admit that and I can own up to that. So it'd be great for not only me but for my group."
