TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals have long said they want star receiver Larry Fitzgerald to retire with the franchise.
According to their general manager, it looks like he'll be with the team for at least another year.
General manager Steve Keim said on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM that the Cardinals have already "baked" Fitzgerald's $23.6 million cap hit in 2015 into their financials for next season.
"We have to make good business decisions," Keim said. "I don't think it's any secret that we said all along that it's our intent to have Larry Fitzgerald retire a Cardinal."
Just before kickoff Sunday night, Pro Football Talk reported that the Cardinals don't plan on releasing Fitzgerald, who's scheduled to earn $16.25 million next season. He can still be traded, however. Or Fitzgerald can renegotiate his contract or even restructure it like he did last offseason.
Fitzgerald's cap numbers will be $17.6 million in 2016 and $17.35 million in 2017 and 2018. Fitzgerald will turn 32 next August.
Keim said the Cardinals have begun talking with Fitzgerald's agent, Eugene Parker, about potential options.
"We will continue to have ongoing talks," Keim said. "But, again, the best I can tell you is that it is our intent to keep Larry and make sure he stays a Cardinal the rest of his career."
