GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers took his fair share of the blame for the Green Bay Packers' loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, even coming up with his own term for his performance.
"Stinkers," Rodgers said Tuesday on his ESPN Milwaukee radio show, saying he prefers that to clunkers.
Whatever you want to call it, Rodgers set career lows for completion percentage (40.5) and passer rating (34.3) and threw a career-high 25 incompletions in the 21-13 loss to Buffalo.
"Sunday was a rough one," Rodgers said. "I didn't play well. That's not news to anybody. Now, it was frustrating because obviously I hold myself to a really high standard. I know I can play better, and I should've played better."
So can his receivers, who dropped seven passes -- the most by any team in a game since 2008, according to ESPN Stats & Information. One of Rodgers' two interceptions came off a dropped pass by Jarrett Boykin.
Still, Rodgers, who completed just 17 of 42 passes for 185 yards with no touchdowns and the two picks, took responsibility.
"It was just disappointing because I missed a few of them by more than I wanted to, but I felt good about the ball coming off," he said. "It was just a little bit off. It was one of those days.
"As an offense we were a little out of sync, and then obviously it didn't help some of the throws I made, but we had some opportunities. We had some opportunities to convert some third downs, to make some plays, and we didn't do it. So we all look squarely in the mirror, and we're very self-critical -- myself as much as anybody."
The Packers still might have won had Jordy Nelson hauled in what likely would have gone for a 94-yard, go-ahead touchdown late in the third quarter. Nelson had three steps on the nearest Bills defensive back, but Rodgers' throw bounced off his hands.
"That's the one time in the last five years Jordy's dropped a pass," Rodgers said. "I wouldn't trade him for anybody. There's some incredible receivers in this league and guys who have been making some unbelievable plays, but I wouldn't trade Jordy for any of them. I love playing with him."
