Sources: Ray Rice hearing in January

Ray Rice's wrongful termination grievance hearing against the Baltimore Ravens has been set for the middle of January, according to ESPN sources and media reports.

Rice's hearing is set for Jan. 15 and Jan. 16 before an arbitrator.

Rice's $35 million contract was terminated by the Ravens on Sept. 8 after video surfaced of him punching Janay Palmer, now his wife, in a casino elevator in Atlantic City, N.J. Rice is seeking lost wages and damages, and claiming his release was punitive, in violation of the collective-bargaining agreement.

If he wins in that case, he could collect as much as $3.5 million in salary after having not played the final 14 games this season.

The NFL has placed a $1.4 million charge against the Ravens' cap to reflect the pending Rice grievance against the team. If Rice wins that grievance, the Ravens' cap could be charged as much as an additional $2.1 million.

Without Rice, the Ravens have the NFL's No. 5 rushing attack and Justin Forsett ranks third in rushing with 1,080 yards.
