Reggie Bush out again for Lions

NFL, Detroit Lions

DETROIT -- Reggie Bush said Tuesday he expected to play for the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving after missing the last two weeks with a lingering ankle injury. Instead, Bush sat again.

Bush was ruled out by the Lions against the Chicago Bears for their Thanksgiving Day game -- the fifth game he missed this season and the seventh straight game he was either out of the game or injured during it.

Bush said he could have potentially played against New England last Sunday, but sat more as a precaution to try and make sure his ankle was completely healthy.

"It's just a matter of being able to take a hit," Bush said Tuesday. "Last week I wasn't ready. Now, I'm looking to play this week."

His last healthy game came in Week 4 against the New York Jets, when he had 12 carries for 46 yards and four receptions for 19 yards. This season, Bush has 53 carries for 191 yards and 26 catches for 169 yards. He has only scored one touchdown this season.

In Bush's place, the Lions once again relied on Joique Bell and Theo Riddick as their two main backs. The Lions also were without one of Bush's main blockers as starting left tackle Riley Reiff was inactive after hurting his left knee on the first play of Sunday's loss to New England. He practiced on a limited basis during walkthrough Wednesday, but is not yet good enough to go.

Replacing Reiff was 2014 undrafted rookie free agent Cornelius Lucas from Kansas State, which meant Detroit's two starting tackles against Chicago were 2013 undrafted free agent LaAdrian Waddle at right tackle and Lucas at left tackle.

Bears defensive tackle Jeremiah Ratliff (knee) and linebacker Lance Briggs (groin) were inactive Thursday.

Also inactive for Chicago were cornerback Terrance Mitchell, linebacker Darryl Sharpton, offensive lineman Eben Britton, defensive end Trevor Scott and wide receiver Chris Williams.

Quarterback Kellen Moore, guard Larry Warford, defensive end Larry Webster, wide receiver Ryan Broyles and defensive tackle Nick Fairley were inactive for the Lions.
