No ACL damage for Tashaun Gipson

CLEVELAND -- Browns safety Tashaun Gipson's regular season might be over, but he suffered no anterior cruciate ligament damage in his right knee during Sunday's game against Atlanta, a source told ESPN.

Gipson is believed to have suffered a Grade 3 MCL injury, the source said. Coach Mike Pettine acknowledged MCL damage, and said Gipson could have PCL damage as well.

He is considered questionable for a return in 2014 but could be a possibility for the playoffs in January if the Browns make the postseason.

Gipson, who leads the NFL with six interceptions, injured his knee early in the fourth quarter Sunday when colliding with cornerback Joe Haden in the end zone as both tried to defend Julio Jones. Gipson underwent an MRI on Monday.

Browns coach Mike Pettine said Monday that the team has not yet decided whether to place Gipson on injured reserve. Pettine said the uncertain timetable for Gipson's return combined with having just five games left in the regular season makes it difficult.

Gipson posted a message about his injury on Instagram on Monday.
