WATT'S GOING ON?

Houston's J.J. Watt nearly beat Cleveland himself, catching a 2-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Mallett, dominating on defense and leading the Texans to a 23-7 win over the Browns on Sunday. Along with scoring his fourth TD this season, he recorded a strip sack, made five tackles -- three for a loss -- recovered a fumble and hurried Brian Hoyer into several bad throws. He's the first defensive lineman to score four times in a season since 1948. The previous defensive linemen to score four TDs in a season were Ray Poole (Giants) and Jack Zilly (Rams). Watt is also the second player in NFL history with two touchdown catches, an interception-return touchdown and a fumble-return touchdown in a season, joining Philadelphia's Jay Arnold in 1938. He's the only NFL player to register a sack, forced fumble, fumble recovery and touchdown reception in the same game since sacks became an official statistic in 1982.

---

STARTS

Arizona beat Detroit 14-6 on Sunday, giving the Cardinals (9-1) their sixth win in a row and their best record through 10 games since the Chicago Cardinals in 1948. The Cardinals also have a three-game lead over Seattle and San Francisco in the NFC West. ... Oakland fell to 0-10 with its 13-6 loss to San Diego, extending the Raiders' losing streak to 16. The skid by the Raiders is the equivalent of a full season, and Monday is the one-year anniversary of their last win, 28-23 at Houston.

---

BACK IN BUSINESS

San Francisco linebacker Aldon Smith returned Sunday from a nine-game suspension for violations of the NFL's substance abuse and personal conduct policies. He had two quarterback hits in the 49ers' 16-10 win over the New York Giants on Sunday.

---

STUFFED UP

Seattle's Marshawn Lynch had 124 yards rushing, but was stuffed twice by the Kansas City defense with the outcome hanging in the balance as Seahawks lost 24-20. The star running back was coming off a four-touchdown game last week.

---

WHAT'S THE TIME?

There were issues with the scoreboard clock during Chicago's 21-13 win over Minnesota at home Sunday. Stadium officials were not sure what caused it to malfunction, which started late in the first half, although the clocks on the side were still working at that time. They were all out once the second half started, forcing the referees to keep time by hand, and stayed that way for most of the third quarter before coming back on. There were more issues in the closing minutes of the game, and Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was not happy. He used an expletive to describe the clocks, and then apologized for his language.

---

HILL CLIMBS BACK

Shaun Hill was back as St. Louis' starting quarterback after critical mistakes landed Austin Davis a spot on the bench. Hill needed two weeks to recover from a thigh injury that sidelined him in the opener, but then sat as Davis played. He returned Sunday and was 20 for 29 for 220 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions in the Rams' 22-7 win over the Broncos in his first start since injuring a thigh in the first half of the opener.

---

STRONG DEBUT

Houston's Ryan Mallett threw a pair of TD passes and finished with 211 yards in his first career start, helping the Texans top Cleveland 23-7. The four-year veteran was promoted during the bye week after the Texans (5-5) benched Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Mallett delivered a needed spark.

---

SUBPAR SOUTH

Atlanta beat Carolina 19-17 to improve to 4-6 on the season -- and tie the Falcons for the NFC South lead with the New Orleans Saints, who lost 27-10 at home to the Cincinnati Bengals. Carolina is 3-7-1, while Tampa Bay is just two games back at 2-8.

---

SIDELINED

Peyton Manning lost two of his top three targets in the Denver Broncos' 22-7 upset loss to the St. Louis Rams when tight end Julius Thomas hurt his ankle in the first quarter and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders suffered a concussion. It was a blast." -- Houston defensive end J.J. Watt, who scored his fourth TD of the season on a 2-yard reception in the Texans' 23-7 victory at Cleveland on Sunday.
