Big Ben: Everyone needs to step it up

NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers

PITTSBURGH -- Ben Roethlisberger, who threw two interceptions in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the New York Jets, said he did not play well but also implied the coaches need to do a better job after the Steelers dropped to 6-4.

Roethlisberger said that when asked about a pass he threw to veteran outside linebacker James Harrison in the fourth quarter. Harrison had come into the game to play fullback with the Steelers on the Jets' 1-yard line and trailing 20-6.

"He's not supposed to be in on that play. The players didn't play well but we also had a couple of issues there getting the right guys in," Roethlisberger said. "I know on third down [that series], the field goal team started running on the field, so we have to make sure we're super sharp in all three phases of the game."

Roethlisberger completed 30 of 43 passes for 343 yards and a touchdown but committed two of the Steelers' four turnovers and could not move the offense consistently. The Steelers managed just three points from the three times they drove inside the Jets' 20-yard line.

Roethlisberger had thrown an NFL-record 12 touchdown passes in the Steelers' previous two games.

"We just need to roll our sleeves up and get back to work," coach Mike Tomlin said. "Not only [Roethlisberger] but our football team. I trust that they will do that."
