Steelers' Bell hoping to get first-offender's deal

PITTSBURGH -- The defense attorney for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell says he expects his client will be accepted into a probation program for first time offenders on marijuana possession and driving under the influence charges.

If that happens, the attorney says the 22-year-old Bell will likely serve a years' probation and could have his arrest record expunged.

Bell and his 27-year-old teammate, LeGarrette Blount, were arrested Aug. 20 after a motorcycle officer in Ross Township, outside Pittsburgh, smelled marijuana coming from a vehicle the men were in with a female friend.

Defense attorney Robert Del Greco says Bell regrets the incident. He waived a preliminary hearing on the charges Wednesday.

Blount's preliminary hearing has been postponed until Dec. 10.
