KANSAS CITY. Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs and their fans broke the Guinness Book of World Records mark for crowd noise in an outdoor stadium during Monday night's game against the New England Patriots at Arrowhead Stadium. A Guinness representative registered a level of 142.2 decibels in the second quarter to break the record. The old record of 137.6 decibels was set last December by Seattle Seahawks fans at CenturyLink Field during a game against the New Orleans Saints. The engine of a jet airplane at 100 feet is about 135 decibels.  The Chiefs and their fans at Arrowhead set the previous record of 137.5 decibels in an October game in 2013 against the Oakland Raiders. "I have this feeling that they're probably going to set a new record,'' Chiefs coach Andy Reid said last week. "It's going to be a lot of red and we look forward to it and bringing the Patriots in here and letting them enjoy that part of it." For those fans wishing to preserve their hearing, the Chiefs passed out 36,000 pairs of ear plugs at stadium gates. But 36,000 ear plugs wasn't enough for even half of the fans at tonight's game. Arrowhead's official attendance is 76,416 fans and the building was full for the Patriots game.
