N-word led to Kaepernick penalty

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Colin Kaepernick's use of a racial slur is what caused the San Francisco 49ers quarterback to be called for an "inappropriate language" unsportsmanlike penalty in a Week 2 loss to the Chicago Bears, according to a Fox Sports report.

Despite saying "I didn't say anything," the report, citing NFL referees, claims that Kaepernick used the N-word in addressing Chicago's Lamarr Houston after the Bears defensive end patted Kaepernick on the back following an interception.

Replays show that Kaepernick said something to Houston on the play.

Following Sunday's 23-14 loss to the Cardinals, Kaepernick said he did not say anything "racially derogatory" to Houston, but did admit, "I talk on the football field, yes I do."

Kaepernick was fined $11,025, but maintained his innocence on Wednesday while saying he would appeal it.

Niners coach Jim Harbaugh was firmly in his quarterback's corner that day as well.

"Colin's always been truthful 100 percent of the time," he said Wednesday.
