Pitta to have tests on dislocated hip

CLEVELAND -- Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta remains hospitalized after suffering a dislocated hip and is scheduled for more tests on Monday to determine if the hip is fractured, a league source told ESPN.

Pitta was carted off the field late in the second quarter of Sunday's last-second 23-21 win over the Cleveland Browns.

With uncertainty surrounding the severity of the injury, the tests will help determine whether it is a season-ending injury, a career-ending injury or whether he might be able to return this season, the source said.

Pitta, who was tied for the team lead in receptions entering the game, lost his balance on a catch and collapsed to the ground without being hit. He was then put on a stretcher and taken to the locker room.

The Ravens are examining his right hip, the same one he had surgery on last season. He was taken to Cleveland's University Hospital for further evaluation.

"I don't know how serious it is," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said after the Ravens' 23-21 win. "I haven't heard. He told me on the field that it wasn't as bad as before. I don't know what that means. I'm just going to be praying and hoping for the best there. That's just so disappointing."

Pitta signed a five-year, $32.5 million contract seven months ago -- a deal that included $16 million guaranteed. In three games this season, Pitta had 16 catches for 125 yards.

With Pitta out, the Ravens will rely on Owen Daniels, who has experience in Gary Kubiak's offense. Daniels has 10 catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns this season.
