Melvin Ingram out at least 7 games

NFL, San Diego Chargers

SAN DIEGO -- Chargers outside linebacker Melvin Ingram has been placed on the injured reserve list, designated to return due to a hip injury, the team announced Saturday.

Ingram had already been declared out for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills with a hamstring/hip issue on Friday.

The move means that Ingram will miss a minimum of seven games this season. The earliest he could return to the field is Week 11 against the Oakland Raiders after the team's bye week on Nov. 9.

Ingram, 25, missed 12 games last season for the Chargers after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during offseason work in May 2013. He returned from the injury after just six and a half months of rehabilitation, playing four regular-season games last year, along with two AFC playoff contests.

In his third season, San Diego's first round selection in the 2012 draft had been playing well. Through two games, Ingram totaled seven tackles -- including two tackles for a loss -- a sack and four quarterback hits.

The Chargers are thin at outside linebacker. Rookie Jeremiah Attaochu is questionable for Sunday's game with a hamstring injury. So Jarret Johnson, Dwight Freeney and Tourek Williams are the only healthy outside linebackers currently on the active roster.

Inside linebacker Reggie Walker also can play outside linebacker. And San Diego could consider adding outside linebacker Cordarro Law from the practice squad to the active roster.
