Jamaal Charles a surprise at practice

NFL, Kansas City Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Running back Jamaal Charles, who suffered a high ankle sprain in last week's game against Denver, was participating in the early portion of Kansas City Chiefs practice Thursday.

His availability for Sunday's game against the Dolphins in Miami is uncertain. But Charles' quick return to practice is an interesting turn of events.

Charles went through warm-ups with his teammates and was then tended to briefly by trainer Rick Burkholder before joining the running backs for position drills. One such drill involved cutting through cones to catch a pass. Charles did this several times and appeared to pass these tests without a problem.

Reporters are allowed only to watch warm-ups and the portion of practice involving position and individual drills. Chiefs listed him on the injury report as being a limited practice participant.

Charles did not work on Wednesday as the Chiefs started their practice week.
