A.J. Green (toe) back at practice

NFL, Cincinnati Bengals

CINCINNATI -- Bengals receiver A.J. Green was back at practice Thursday, working out for the first time since a toe injury forced him to exit early from the team's 24-10 win Sunday over the Atlanta Falcons.

Green said Wednesday that he has not ruled out the possibility of playing this Sunday when the Bengals host the Tennessee Titans. The three-time Pro Bowl receiver said that if he responds favorably to treatment and practice the rest of this week, he'll play.

"If it's feeling good, then I'm going to go," Green said. "If it's not, then we'll go from there."

It was in the last few minutes of the 30-minute open portion of practice that Green showed signs that he might play this weekend after all. After spending the first 25 minutes or so stretching and mostly standing around as the Bengals walked through position drills, Green lined up out wide and ran at a good pace through two routes. He cut a couple of times on a comeback route and ran a drag pattern. He caught both balls.

Green isn't sure when he originally hurt his big right toe, but he knew it happened in the first quarter of the season-opening win at Baltimore. He played through that contest, even catching an 80-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter that proved to be the winning score.

"I got past it," Green said.

He still isn't sure what to call the injury but said it was "something like turf toe, but not as bad."

Green felt the injury all last week when the Bengals practiced, even sitting out last Thursday's workout to allow the injury time to heal. That wouldn't matter. During pregame warm-ups Sunday, he said he wasn't able to get full extension whenever his foot landed as he ran. So six plays into the game, he came off the field and never returned.

Coach Marvin Lewis told SiriusXM Radio on Thursday morning that he expected Green to play against Tennessee.

The receiver caught a team-high six passes for 131 yards and a touchdown in the Week 1 win at Baltimore. Against the Falcons he was held catchless for the first time in a game that he started.

Just like on Sunday, Green would be replaced by Mohamed Sanu at the No. 1 receiver position if he can't play. Sanu caught three passes for 84 yards and a touchdown last week and also completed a 50-yard pass.
