Steelers sign CB Allen to 5-year contract

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers and cornerback Cortez Allen have agreed to terms on a new five-year contract through the 2018 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The 25-year-old Allen was about to enter the final season of the four-year deal he signed after being taken in the fourth round of the 2011 draft.

Allen thrived after moving into a starting role in 2013. He finished with two interceptions and 13 passes defensed while playing in 14 games. The Steelers felt confident enough in Allen's play to move him to the top cornerback spot during the second half of the 2013 season.

Allen is the third potential free agent the Steelers have locked up during training camp. The team signed kicker Shaun Suisham and offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert to new deals last month.
