Giants sign Adam Snyder, two others

NFL, New York Giants

Geoff Schwartz was the New York Giants' first and most important offensive line addition this offseason. But because of a toe injury, the veteran guard won't play for his new team until Week 9.

The Giants announced Wednesday that Schwartz has been placed on injured reserve with a designation to return. To replace him on the 53-man roster, the team signed veteran guard Adam Snyder, who played for the 49ers last season and was once a teammate of Schwartz's at Oregon.

Schwartz, who dislocated his right big toe in the Giants' preseason game against the Jets, can't practice with the team for the next six weeks or play in the first eight weeks of the season. The Giants are off in Week 8 and return Nov. 3 against the Colts on "Monday Night Football." That game would be the first for which Schwartz is eligible, although the Giants are not required to activate him at that time.

The Giants also announced the signings of tight end Jerome Cunningham and defensive tackle Dominique Hamilton. Cunningham was in training camp with the team. Hamilton spent his first two seasons in the league on the practice squads of Washington and Kansas City. The Giants have now filled all 10 of the available spots on their practice squad.
