Dolphins release QB Brady Quinn

MIAMI -- The Dolphins released quarterback Brady Quinn on Tuesday.

Quinn announced he had been cut on his Twitter page earlier Tuesday. The Dolphins made the move official later in the day.

A former first-round draft pick, Quinn signed with Miami earlier this month to compete with backup quarterback Matt Moore.

But Quinn struggled in practices while with the Dolphins and also was outperformed by Moore in the preseason. The former Notre Dame star took to Twitter on Tuesday to thank the Dolphins and wish them luck in the upcoming season.

The Dolphins currently have 85 players on their roster and must cut down to 75 by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Miami will host the St. Louis Rams in its preseason finale on Thursday.

Quinn, 29, was selected 22nd overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2007. He also has had brief stints with the Rams, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets.
