Anquan Boldin wins White Award

NFL, San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers receiver Anquan Boldin was bestowed with the NFL Players Association's highest honor.

The NFLPA announced Thursday, from its annual meetings in Orlando, Fla., that Boldin is this year's recipient of the Byron "Whizzer" White Award.

The award honors a player's work in the community. Players from all 32 teams are nominated. The NFLPA gave a $100,000 award to the Anquan Boldin Foundation as part of the honor. The foundation focuses on improving educational and life opportunities for underprivileged children.

The program is focused in the area around Boldin's Pahokee, Fla., home. The program is also in place in the three NFL cities where he has played -- Phoenix, Baltimore and San Francisco -- and in South Florida.

Boldin was traded from Baltimore to the 49ers last year. He had one of his best seasons in 2013. The 49ers recently gave Boldin a two-year, $12 million extension. He is the first San Francisco player to win the award since its inception in 1967.
